Training Matrix to display colors based off of selected values from a dropdown menu.

I have a training matrix that I want to be able to enter the date of training. On the next field I want to create a dropdown menu with the values of "Y for yes, N for No and R for rescheduled. I already know how to create the drop down and add color to the dropdown, but what I really need is to have the field to the left change color based on the value selected in the dropdown menu. Meaning that if training is completed I can enter the date and select Y from the dropdown menu and the date field changes to green, likewise if the training was not completed I can select "N" from the dropdown and the date field will change to red, If I select "R" from the dropdwon the date field will change to blue.

    I hope this makes sense.

    Thank you,

    Jeff

Have you looked into Conditional Formatting?

    Look up this topic.

If you are still having problems... please attached a sample spreadsheet with sample results that you want to see...

Yes, I figured out how to change the color of the cell with the dropdown, but not how to change the field next to it. I needed documentation that the training was eithe completed, incomplete or rescheduled including the date.

So say the cell you want the change the color is B1, but will depend on cell A1...

Then in the conditional formatting, choose the Rule Type = "Use a formula to determind which cells to format"
Then in the "Format values where this formual is true: type in something like =A1="Y", then change the format below. Press OK.
Then go back to conditional formatting, click on Manage Rules... and here you can add another Rule, say =A1="N"
    etc.

Let me know if you still don't follow...
