Returning multiple values based on list

Hello,

I'm hoping someone may be able to help with my question.

Here's where I'm at. On one tab i have a drop down list that can select a house model. underneath i would like a complete list of options to populate for that model. The complete library is stored on another tab and i would like only the corresponding options to show when the model is selected.

House model DROP DOWN LIST (X)

Options:
x1 _______
x2 ______
x3 _____

Library
x1 ______
a1 _____
b1 _____
x2 _____
b3 _____
A2 ______
x3 ______

Something like the above, where if x is selected only those items appear from the library (without blanks)

help me obiwan, you our only hope

chances are this has probably been answered somewhere, so please direct me there if thats the case and I thank you in advance.

Like always, I like to see what you are working with over text,

can you upload a small sample file of what you have and I'll see what I can do. If you don't want to, a greater excel expert my know how to fix you.

Hi and welcome to the forum

You can probably do this with either a vlookup() or an index/match combo, but for us to offer any sort of formula suggestion beyond that, as mentioned above...i would suggest you upload a sample work book, (all sensitive data removed), showing what data you are working with, a few examples of what your expected outcome is, and how you arrived at that
To attach a file to your post,
click advanced (next to quick post),
scroll down until you see "manage file",
click that and select "add files" (top right corner).
click "select files" find your file, click "open" click "upload" click 'done" bottom right. click "submit reply"

Once the upload is completed the file name will appear below the input boxes in this window.
You can then close the window to return to the new post screen.
1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)
2. If your question is resolved, mark it SOLVED using the thread tools
3. Click on the star if you think someone helped you

Regards
Ford

Sales Catalogue 2.xlsx

thanks for the heads up.

the area of concern it the "Model Specific" tab...that is where i'd like the ability to select a model and have the list below generate from the "DO NOT USE" tab.

and thank you again for your help

HOLY CRAP! That is exactly what i was looking for. I cannot thank you enough.

If you don't mind indulging me one more time, could you please describe where i can learn about the exact functions you used? I'm relatively uneducated about excel, so I'd like to....get educated.

again, thank you. I cannot describe to you the amount of frustration this sheet will alleviate in my company.

Props to you good sir!

Hi JA,

One of the most comprehensive sources of useful and easy to understand info re Excel is YouTube (they add the audio-visual component).

In YouTube, search on "Excel 2007 Tutorials" and you will find a bucket-load - from introductory to advanced.
There a number of contributors, each with different styles of presentation, so check out a few until you find one that suits your style, then refine your search and work through those tutorials from a starting point you select.
