    formula change by column used

    I have a question and I dont know if this and be done but I was wondering is there is a away to make a formula increase itself per colunm.

    =L12&" - "&I12&" "&H12&" "&J12&" - "&K12 <---- this is the formula that I am using

    Say this is in A12 and I want to copy this to A13.

    Is there away to make the the number 12 (=L12&" - "&I12&" "&H12&" "&J12&" - "&K12) change to a number 13 and increment by 1 for each and ever line I enter this in. 14,15,16 and so on.

    So =L12&" - "&I12&" "&H12&" "&J12&" - "&K12 would change to this =L13&" - "&I13&" "&H13&" "&J13&" - "&K13 and so on.

    What I am doing is pulling words from 4 different columns and making one column. and I am trying to figure out the best way to do this so I am not having to type this formula for thousands of columns.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks the the title change

    Unless I mis-understand your question, I took
    A12 =L12&" - "&I12&" "&H12&" "&J12&" - "&K12
    and copied it down
    A13 =L13&" - "&I13&" "&H13&" "&J13&" - "&K13
    ?

    Yes this is what I need it to do. I need it to change its value from A12 > A13 > A14 and so on. L,I,H,J and K need to increment there number for each line they are on.

    Re: formula change by column used

    Thats exactly what I did, i copied

    A12 =L12&" - "&I12&" "&H12&" "&J12&" - "&K12
    to A13, and it changed to this for me, without me having to do anything

    A13 =L13&" - "&I13&" "&H13&" "&J13&" - "&K13

    Have you tried to just copy it down? If you did, what happened?

    I got it to work. Had to be a glitch. I restarted excel and it works now. Must have been just something that wasn't refreshing when it was copied.

    Re: formula change by column used

    Well here is what I did - I entered your formula in A12
    =L12&" - "&I12&" "&H12&" "&J12&" - "&K12
    Then I just copied it down 2 rows, and it changed from 12 to 13...and then again from 13 to 14.

    Have you checked to see if you have calcs set to manual?
