    Match cells

I hope someone can help me please. I have attached an example sheet to this post. Under column B I have a list of customers and under column E I have the same customers but they are in a different order. I have to lift the date beside each customers in column E and place it beside the corresponding customer in column A. I'm currently doing this manually and it's very time consuming. Is there a formula that would quickly do this for me?

    dbmrexcel1981,

The formula in cell C2, formatted as date, copied down:
    =VLOOKUP(B2,E:F,2,)

    or:
    =VLOOKUP(B2,$E$2:$F$22,2,)
    Have a great day,
    Stan

    Re: Match cells

I'm a little bemused by your sample data. The dates against each customer entry on the right hand side are always the same.

If that's always the case, then use the VLOOKUP that the other guys have suggested. That will always return the first date that it finds for the customer.

If there may be different orders/dates, you might want to use the formula that I have provided. It will return blanks if you have more entries onthe left hand side than the right hand side.

    Regards, TMS
