    random numbers between set values

Hello, I have to create seperate examples of vehicle mileage log sheets for part of a training exercise. Currently I am doing these by hand and they take ages so I have had a go with Excel and have managed to generate the random numbers but am lost on how to get them to add up to a total and in a given ammount of entries.

The given information will have a given start and end total mileage and a given number of entries, eg start 0 end total 10455 split over 150 entries. but the 150 entries need to be within a range of 20 to 135 (obviously totalling the total 10455).

If anyone has time to offer some help I would be most grateful.

    thanks, M

    Hello thickmart,

    Welcome to the Forum.

    Questions like
generate the random numbers but am lost on how to get them to add up to a total and in a given ammount of entries.
    and

a given start and end total mileage and a given number of entries, eg start 0 end total 10455 split over 150 entries. but the 150 entries need to be within a range of 20 to 135
are a bit confusing as to what exact parameters one should be looking at.

May I suggest, you upload a sample Workbook of what you already have, and what outcome or result you wish to obtain.

Re: random numbers between set values

small example of what the sheet looks like, I normally have to do about 10 of these per training session and they all different (can be between 50 and 300 entries) so i need something that can be altered to suit each time. The information I always have is the start and end total mileage mileage and how many days this was done over, I then have to mess around working out a milage for each day (between a minimum and maximum distance) that have to add upto the end total mileage figure.
So using the attached as an example I had to generate 20 varied numbers (between 35 and 120) that added upto the total of 1630. the next one may be 200 varied numbers (between 20 and 150) that total 7367. if that makes more sense?

    cheers M
