I'm making a scoring table to keep score between multiple teams. I have eight teams and it's scored eight places with the points ranging from 8:1. I have it set up so that placing an "x" in a cell will assign the 8:1 point value (listed in a separate column) to a different cell that represents a team that will ultimately be added together for their final point total. What I'm trying to do is make a formula so that if two or more teams tie in an event, the points value for the respective places will be added together and then divided between the teams that tied. For example, if Team 1 and Team 3 tied for 1st place then an "x" would be place in both cells representing 1st place. Instead of both teams receiving 1st place points, the points for 1st place (8) and points for 2nd place (7) would be added together and divided between the two teams. Instead of getting both getting 8 points, they would both get 7.5 points: (8+7)/2. If three teams tied for 1st then it would be (8+7+6)/3 and so on. I'm trying to make this work for all tie possibilities even if it's a highly unlikely 8 way tie. I've attached an example of my worksheet since my explanation probably was difficult to follow without a visual. Thank you.
