Copy and pasting data thats strictly in view

Not sure how to explain this problem or even if im wording it correctly.

However, i need to copy and paste a row of data containing numbers into my database from another database created by someone else. When I copy the row of data containing 17 cells it pastes 144 cells of data containing numbers into my database. Im sure there is some behind the scene activity occuring but i want only the 17 cells of data that are seen directly. I cant provide the workbook because this information is confidential within the company I work for.

It sounds like you are trying to copy/paste visible cells only.

Select the visible data you wish to copy. Use ALT+; (semicolon) to highlight visible cells only.

Then you can copy and paste only these visible cells.

yeah the only problem is that the workbook is protected. I cant perform this action unless I choose to unprotect the workbook but I dont have the password to do that. Whoever created the database has the password and he or she probably wont give it to our department. any way to hack around it?
