Autofill vlookup

This is making me NUTZ!!

I want to simply fill many lower rows with the same Vlookup formula. I will manually type in the formula for the first 3 lines and then drag to fill, but ALL of the numbers are counting up as I fill. I only want the lookup value to change, not the table array. How can i get the table array to stay the same throughout the autofill?

use $ to LOCK the row reference..

=VLOOKUP(A1,B$1:C$1000,2,FALSE)
