    Summing only numbers

Hi all. I'm working with a bit of a funky template that was given to me. Each cell has option of NA, X, or a number that's attributed to it. My question to you all is how do I find a sum of only the numbers? I tried to find the sum of the column without any other sort of equation but all of the results were just zero and I have a feeling it's because of the text in the data. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you!

    Re: Summing only numbers

Are the numbers formatted as numbers or as text? If Excel doesn't recognize that they're numbers, it won't add them.

    Re: Summing only numbers

A simple sum function already ignores text values by default.
So you should be able to just do
    =SUM(A:A)

If that's resulting in 0, then your numbers are probably not really numbers, but "numbers stored as text"
Are these cells the result of another formula? Can you post that formula?
