    Budget Meter without using charts.

    Hey everyone,

I'm currently working on a project similar to this practice one I thought I'd try my hand at. The goal is to not use a chart and be able to shade into the next worksheet the values given on the worksheet before. Alright that probably was more confusing then needed to be so I'll just explain via the excel sheet provided down below. So on Worksheet one aka named Listing I have the total price on D13 which is $875.52, I wanna use that cells value and transfer it onto my second worksheet Budget Meter. Over there you see 10 boxes each boxes is separated by increments of 100 dollars. is there a way I can have it highlight 8.75 boxes? If so do you know what the formula would be? I've got a feeling its going to be conditional formatting but I am not quite sure what the formula would be or how I would go at it. Or would this be something only VBA could tackle? Any input suggestion or edits will be much appreciated.

What's your reason for avoiding a graph?

Using merged cells and conditional formatting you could get this Dreambuild(solution for hanzechin).xlsx. Even though this is way more work than just using a graph.

Wow Craig that looks fab. thanks for the help, I'll break what you down and try to get it working on the more complicated spreadsheet. I suppose I do owe you an answer huh? Well to be honest the original use of not using non chart chart, was geared towards to reflect how much hours has been spent on certain projects on a employeers work day. My boss thought the graph version was too cluttered the worksheet a tad too much, so I decided to tackle it with conditional formatting but had no luck so came here to ask for help. What you did there would have been perfect .

I'm glad I was able to help you. If you ever run into problems with a cluttered graph, you should post a request on the graphs forum. They might be able to help you pick the correct graph for the job and format/refine it so it's not so busy.
