    formula variation.

    hey guys.
i'm think myself an intermidiate excel user.
i need a formula that allows variation of the 'arguments'
I’m trying to create a formula which subtracts the last macro 5 to a macro 9 to obtain THP.

The issue being that it must be on the same day(date), same train (prefix and comboios) and in the same place (texto).

The other difficulty I’m having is not all differences are like the one below, some subtractions derive from consecutive cells, therefore I need a formula which accounts for this variability.

    Hi Melvio,

Please update the thread title to reflect the query you are asking... may be you can also include the formula name

    Hi melvio

When I said (in another thread) a sample, I did not really mean all 15,030 lines!

When you change the title, perhaps you could alos help us understand by identifying

    - what is a Macro5
    - what is a Macro9
    - what is a THP
    - what is the train prefix (the first one might be 2955, but could also be 601)

"not all differences are like the one below" which one, specifically?
"some subtractions derive from consecutive cells" which ones, and why?

Once we have all the above sorted, we can begin to understand and then be in a position to help.

    Regards
    Alastair
It would also help if you could give an example of what the end result will look like.

    Hi Alaister.

    thanks for your guide lines.

A macro 5 is an indication that a train operator mas requested permission to move after have being stopped.
A macro 9 is an indication that the train has stopped.

    Therefore Macro 5 - Macro 9 = THP.

    THP is simply stoppage time.

2955 is a locomotive number attached to a train. These are constants, like an ID.

An L or a K followed by a 3 digit number makes the prefix of the train.

I separated them for easier filtering.

    L means just locomotives.

and K means locomotives and wagons.

The prefixes of trains are repeated, but never on the same date.
