How to copy formula's from a Relative cell without changing the cell references

    Hello,

I am trying to copy a formula from one cell to the other. The cell references within the formula do not have a '$' sign so when copying the cell reference changes and there are quite a few that I need to copy so don't want to have to go through and change them all.

I have seen a way round it, by replaceing the '=' sign at the front of the formula to make it a text entry, copy and then change it back to '='.

However, I was wondering if there was any other way of doing this.....

    1) Is there a shortcut / key press function to copy and paste without loosing the cell reference.?
    2) Is there a quick way of being able to highlight all the cells and changing from Relative to Absolute without having to highlight individual cell references and pressing <F4>.?

    Thank you.

    Hi Marc,

If the formula (which you are copying) has $ sign in front of references then you should not face any problem of reference change when you paste that. Try it once and let me know if this helps.

    Hi Marc,

Can you post a small sample? I'm not sure why you've rejected the first option you mention (i.e. replace the "=" with e.g. "#", copy, paste, replace back, etc.) but this kind of depends on the specifics of your sheet setup.

If you have few formulas, you can input $ sign manually and then copy - paste

Also, I would be interested to know the solution for point no. 2)

Re: How to copy formula's from a Relative cell without changing the cell references

I'm afraid I can't post the spreadhsheet I'm using but a simple example would be....

    Cell A1 to A5

I'm not rejecting the search and replace option I was just wondering .....

    1) Is there a shortcut / key press function to copy and paste cells A1 to A5 as they are to a difference range without loosing the cell reference.?
    2) Is there a way of being able to highlight cells A1 to A5 and change them from Relative to Absolute without having to highlight individual cell references and pressing <F4>.?

    Thanks.

    Hi,

In short, to answer both your questions, no. The methods described in this thread present your best options.
