help with match function not working

I'm trying to look up a row number from sheet1 in a formula in sheet2. I used the match formula, but only works with 0 or exact match. If I do -1 or greater than value it returns "#N/A". My lookup value is 4, and the lookup array data greater than 4 is 4.005. If I put 4.005 as a lookup value and 0 as a match i'm fine, but not 4 and -1 (greater than). Any ideas?

If you want to find the largest value that is equal to or greater than the look up value then sort the list in ascending order and use the "1" match type.

I figured it out that "1" give s me my result, but in the formula description it says "1" finds the largest value that is less than or equal to lookup value. To me it would return a 3.## value.

Oops. The old gray ain't what she used to be . . . poor memory.
I should have said use the -1 match type and sort in descending order.

Either way I have the data in ascending order with a "1" and it works. I just think it is backwards from the description and it shouldn't work the way it does.

I'm facing kind of a similar problem.
The match formula, using the exact match Type "0", always give me the row right before the one I'm looking for?

I don't get it?
