Replacing Old Hyperlinks with Hyperlink Functions on Shared Spreadsheet

    Hi there,

I'm in need of help! Recently, I've combined two separate spreadsheets into a single sheet that is now shared so we can all work on it at the same time. However, due to the fact that it is now shared, any new hyperlinks have to be created using the =HYPERLINK() function.

This isn't a problem for new additions, but we'll also be moving information from tab to tab, which causes the old hyperlinks to stop functioning. With hundreds of cells that need changing from the old, automatic hyperlinks to the new function hyperlinks, I need help on whether there is a quick and easy way to replace old hyperlinks to function hyperlinks. Each hyperlink is different, either to a website or to a location on a shared drive, so a catch-all find and replace won't work.

Any advice you can provide would be fantastic!

    Thanks in advance,

    Marc

What type of hyperlinks are they? If they are all web links like http://abc.net.au you could do something like this

    Edit/replace all
    from http:
    To =hyperlink("http:

    Then do edit replace all
    From .au
    To .au")

    Hope that makes sense.
My approach to providing help is to help you to help yourself. So my answers won't always solve your problem, but hopefully you can learn enough to solve the problem yourself and be more self sufficient for the experience.

Re: Replacing Old Hyperlinks with Hyperlink Functions on Shared Spreadsheet

    Hi Mallycat,

Thanks for the quick response. Unfortunately, it's a mixture of URL links with differing suffixes (.co.uk, .com, .biz etc) so your method does work, albeit with a bit of legwork to sort out the different URLs.

In addition to this, I also have hyperlinks to individual client folders located on a shared drive on the office network, ie: \\home\clients\client1 as well as our database. Before the spreadsheet was turned into a shared one, the hyperlinks were entered using the right-click, create hyperlink option; and so the actual locations that the hyperlinks are going to are not present anywhere for me to edit on the spreadsheet.

I have a horrible feeling I may have to just manually create the =hyperlink() functions for all client folders/database entries...
