If you are looking for 4 as your answer, then take a look at the attached sheet
It will work for the whole sheet, I have more than one column, I need it for each column alone or 2 columns together

If yes, then similar approach of adding a helper column and count if will work for any number of columns.

You can use a revised version of bebo's suggestion which doesn't need helper columns, try this formula in B13 copied across
=SUMPRODUCT((B1:B12<>"")/COUNTIF(B1:B12,B1:B12&""))
