    Dependant drop down lists

    Hi

I've been trying to create a sheet with several dependant drop down lists, I managed to get it working somewhat using the data validation as per the following tutorial http://www.contextures.com/xlDataVal02.html

The problem I am now facing is that I wish to have 3 columns:

Column 1 to select first item from drop down list
Column 2 to select colour from drop down list - colours will be dependant upon what has been picked in column 1
Column 3 to select a predefined fault description, the faults need to be dependant upon the item selected in column 1

I can get the first 2 columns working but not the 3rd! Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

Post an example workbook, showing what you have got so far. The FAQ describes how.

    Re: Dependant drop down lists

You will need another set of defined names for the faults - you could call these Model1_F in say column F of the data sheet, then Model2_F listed in column G, and Model3_F listed in column H, then your data validation source in C2 would be defined as:

    =INDIRECT($A$2&"_F")

    Hope this helps.
