    SUMIFS syntax problem? #VALUE error

I am trying to use SUMIFS to calculate required/elective training totals based on a job function matrix.

The attached spreadsheet contains 2 different syntaxes of the function (Yellow highlighted cells), of the half-dozen variations I've tried. I've checked Excel's help and searched this forum, and based on what I've found, it seems one of my attempts should have worked.

    What am I doing wrong?

The ranges aren't all the same size.

You need to ensure all the ranges are the same size.

You had C9 instead of C7.

Also, you don't need the "=" sign in front of the criteria.

    Hi

Try in this way in E4

    =SUMIFS($B$7:$B$34,E$7:E$34,"R",$C$7:$C$34,"Instructor")
    Regards

    Fotis.

Thanks, all, for pointing out my obvious mistake. It works great when I get the ranges sized properly.
