Creating an average from a set of data based on an initial start and end date and time

Hello Everyone,

I have some basic excel formula skils but nothing too complex so i will try to explain my issue and hopefully you can provide help. I would very much appreciate any information you can give me.

So i have a long list of data 'x' and each data point has date and time 'y' and i have another table which has the dates 'z-1' & 'z' and i would like to calculate an average value of 'x' from the range 'z-1 to z' from the list 'y' so this can be a continual table with varying averages


'z-1' 3/8/12 8:00
'z' 3/9/12 8:00 AVG 'x' 15.395 (this is the value i am looking for)
'z+1' and so on... AVG 'x+1) and so on...

long list of data....

'y' 3/8/12 8:00 'x' 15.35
'y' 3/8/12 9:00 'x' 15.40
'y' 3/8/12 10:00 'x' 15.40
'y' 3/8/12 11:00 'x' 15.43
