Dynamic formulas applied based on critera / drop down list

Is there a way to apply a formula to a set of data that is chosen based on a data validation drop down list. In this case I have a list of different criteria and based on the selection made various columns will be included in a sum formula while other values are excluded. Depending on the row for which the selection is made the formula would need to add the columns in that specific row. I almost feel like there would be some combination of indirect, vlookup and named ranges involved. I would use an IF statement but there are too many different combinations of formulas and I may need to add, subtract or edit the various formulas on a regular basis. I can provide more detail if needed.

    Thanks!

Yes there is a way but your question is hypotehtical and excel people like more application based questions... As in Post a sample data set...

Thanks for the reply. Sorry for being vague. I have attached a sample file with an explanation of what I am trying to accomplish inside.

    Thanks!

I cannot understand what you are trying to accomplish.

Post a sample workbook with a few examples that include the current state and what you want it to accomplish that has numbers in it. You can use numbers instead of formulas.

Re: Dynamic formulas applied based on critera / drop down list

If you look at column P in this book you will see various calculations for different denominators based on the the different inclusion scenarios in column L which are a drop down menu. I need to have the numerator (column J sum the same columns for that one specific country as a numerator). I am trying to compare apples to apples. If the denominator includes the sum of column C, D, F, & G then the numerator needs to include the sum of C, D, G, & G from that country. Does that help clarify? The sheet I have posted is a snapshot from within a much larger book that I will need to insert this logic into. I hope that helps clarify.

Re: Dynamic formulas applied based on critera / drop down list

Would it be possible to make something like this work?

Lets say in cell A1 I have a string that reads "C"&ROW()&":"&"I"&ROW() and in cell J2 I put a formula =SUM(INDIRECT(A1)). My hope would be that I would be able to sum the columns C through I for the row in which the formula is located.

For whatever reason that gives me a #REF error. The formula evaluator doesn't give much insight and I can't think of a way to correct this. Any thoughts?
