I'm trying to compare the performance (i.e. percent gain/loss) of 2 portfolios (A and B) over time with differing deposits/withdrawals from each. Ultimately I want to graph them against each other to see which is performing better (similar to comparing the value of $10,000 over time for each). Deposits/withdrawals from each are not consistent or regular. I have the starting value and ending value each day and the amount deposited/withdrawn each day. This is not future value with a projected percent but actual performance given past results with differing amounts and consistent time.
For example, I start Port A with $1,000 on 1/1/13 and on 2/1/13 days I add $500. I start Port B with $2,000 on 1/1/13 and on 1/15/13 I remove $250 and on 2/15/13 I remove another 250. How do I compare/graph the performance from 1/1/13 to 2/28/13 given daily changes (gains/losses). I can handle the graph but need the formula to normalize the initial deposit and inflows/outflows such that I'm comparing performance day by day over time.
