Urgent help needed: Vlookup within a Vlookup

    Hi everyone,

I would very much appreciate some guidance on an issue I am having.

I am trying to create a lookup within a lookup. I have attached a file for reference and what I am aiming to do is correlate names primarily, and if the names match, then correlate the dates of birth as a secondary lookup.

In my attachment I need to see first if any names (highlighted red) from 'List 1' appear in 'List 2'. If no match found then define as 'no match'. If a name match is found, I then need a lookup which only functions if the List 1 name matches that of List 2 and checks if the 'List 1' Dates of birth (highlighted yellow) appear in 'List 2' dates of birth. This can be defined as 'Name only match' & 'Name & DOB match'.

E.G John Smith appears in 'List 1' cell A2. I need to find if John Smith appears at all in 'List 2' column A. If he does (there could be multiple John smiths) I need to know if John Smith's 'Date of Birth' 01/08/2013 in 'List 1' is correlated to his name under the 'Date of Birth' column I in 'List 2'. The 'date of birth' lookup should only function if there are primarily 'name matches'.

    Many thanks and kind regards,

    Jose

You profile shows 2003, your file is an 2007 version.

    Which is right.

See the green cells in the attached file.

    I made this with Vlookup.

I appreciate it, if you reply on my solution.
