Count / Allocate number in list

Morning all (well, to those in Aus )

I've got a basic question (at least, I think its basic).

I have a list of data that I am trying to organise. What I would like is to number each time a specific data point comes up. eg, If 'apples' comes up, then that is given a 1, then if apples comes up again in the list, it is given a 2 and so on. So it's essentially a 'cell plus 1' equation but with a mixed list.

I've attached a 'how I would like it to end up' spreadsheet. If anyone knows how to do it, I'd be mighty grateful!

    Thanks in advance.

    Yep, that's done it!

So easy I feel embarrassed asking now!

    Thanks
