Conditional Formating

This shouldn't be hard but is seriously vexing me. I have a column of numbers. How do I compare each number to the previous and attach 1 of 5 of the arrow icons for way down, down, same, up, way up? I am categorizing each step as 5% so same would be +- 2.5%. My problem is that for some reason Excel is not letting me create a floating conditional format with the icons. If someone could help me out, I would greatly appreciate it.

    Thank you,

    Vichisov

    Click on your list

Click on Home and then conditional formatting

Click on Icons and then on arrows.

Click on conditional format and manage rules to edit the rules.

    Re: Conditional Formating

So I get as far as what you wrote. The problem is that I am not sure how to set up the condition. I do not want to compare the cells to a single cell ie 1.1*a$1$ etc but rather to the previous number. So a2 gets compared to a1 and a3 to a2. Excel is saying it is having trouble with "You cannot use relative references in conditional formatting."

    Re: Conditional Formating

If you are comparing to the previous number (cell above?), then make sure you do not have $ in the cell references

If that still doesnt work, suggest you upload a sample file
    1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)
