copy cells with formula nothing happens

I have built a spreadsheet with specific values in column B that are used in formulas. I have then placed values in C:H and copied the formulas from the cells in column B however instead of the formula recalculating to use the formulas it just populates with error or in this case a ZERO in all boxes here is a better example incase I'm not explaining it clearly.

    B4*(B10-B16)

Cell C should copy and change to C4* (B10-B16) and instead its take the column that is empty and referencing C like it changed the entire forumla and I can't figure out why I have used every paste option possible and checked the formula calculation thing to automatic.

    Please help thanks in advance.

Change your original formula to B4*($B$10-$B$16) and then copy to the columns to the right. This is called absolute reference

I tried that and now its copying the answer to the cell instead of a zero in all the boxes the answers are all the same its still not changing the reference

So what you described is not the whole formula? How can we help you with an issue, if you only give us part of the problem. In the name of efficiency, tell us the whole story.

Attach a sample workbook. Make sure there is just enough data to make it clear what is needed. Include a BEFORE sheet and an AFTER sheet in the workbook if needed to show the process you're trying to complete or automate. Make sure your desired results are demonstrated, mock them up manually if needed. Remember to desensitize the data.
