    count ICD-10 codes

    dear members,

I would like help with counting of ICD-10 codes for patients discharged from our unit over a given period of time. I attach all the data as an xls.
ICD10 codes are alphanumeric with decimals as well eg A00.1. The codes (col A) are further grouped into Blocks eg Block A00-B99. From a list of codes of our patients (col F) I would like to count the no. of occurrences of codes within each Block - for eg I would like to have a count for the no. of codes (col F) that fall between A00 - B99, - and so on for the rest of the blocks (col D) and would like this to appear in col G. Col A contains ALL the codes in ICD10. Pl provide a formula for this.

Hope this is clear enough. Your help would be much appreciated.

    thanks.

I think you get better help if you add the desired result in your file (on another sheet) and post that file.
Notice my main language is not English.

I appreciate it, if you reply on my solution.

    Re: count ICD-10 codes

Seems there are few non matching entries in the discharge codes, i've left them in and they will appear #N/A

Seems to me your best option is with a Pivot table.

I've attached an example using your data. The Pivot appears around column L
