how to highlight a cell at a specific value

    I have 12 columns

    =SUM(B2:B32,H2:H29,N2:N32,T2:T31,Z2:Z32,AF2:AF31,AL2:AL32,AR2:AR32,AX2:AX31,BD2:BD32,BJ2:BJ31,BP2:BP32)

that formula adds them all up

what i need to happen is for a cell to highlight when the sum "1390" is reached. and this highlight of course would move depending on the amount in individual cells. i am sure this is doable but i can't figure it out.

    Any help greatly appreciated!

    sorry on rule misunderstanding!

Re: Please help me with a tough formula

Simplyfy your formula With Array Formula

Assumes your data in Range A2 to L32 :

    =SUM(A2:L32)

and hit hit CTRL-SHIFT-ENTER button together....

To highlight the cell if your amount 1390 is reched is with Conditional Formatting

    See the file attach

Re: Please help me with a tough formula

I can't use an array formula as there are other columns involved that I don't want included it is just these 12 columns with varying numbers in each cell.
In the end we want 0 in the top left cell and adding down the column then to the top of the next column and so on. When the total hits the pre determined "1390" that cell will highlight.
    Does that explain it better?

Re: how to highlight a cell at a specific value

That would be great! Thanks so much for your help. It has been driving me nuts trying to figure this out.

You can see in the file that my columns are of the 12 months. The column I am concerned about is "Hrs Wrk" it is B, H, N and so on.

What i want to happen is: as the cells in these columns are populated they will add up. When the magic number of 2184 is met the cell where that happened will color or highlight in some way. If the values in the columns change, that highlight will also change as applicable.

Thanks so much for your help. I can't wait to see the formula. This has been making me crazy!!

No need for formula, is just use Conditional Formatting

    U Can Test It

Sorry. I don't see anything in the file? The change you put in didn't save.

just put number 2184 on cell B32 for test the conditional formatting, no formula in there

Re: how to highlight a cell at a specific value

its more complicated than that. look at the file now. i have populated the fields. now somewhere in december the magic number 2184 has been met. i want that cell to be highlighted. i also want that highlight to move around if i change a value in january or july or anywhere else for that matter.
