    Slow Calculations - COUNTIF

    Hello Fellow Excel Users,

    Thanks for taking the time to read this.

    I am using a simple COUNTIF function on a list of unique values. These values are strings. On another sheet in the same workbook, I have a another list of strings, but they are not unique. I want to see how many times each value on the unique sheet appears in the non-unique sheet using COUNTIF. The formula work fine but the unique sheet has 200,000 values and the non-unique sheet has a little over 1 million values. The COUNTIF calculation takes seriously forever...

    Is there as faster way to do this or improve the speed of this process?

    My computer runs Intel i5 with 6GB of RAM (not sure if this helps).

    Wow that IS a lot of data!! Not that it matters, but it cant be much more than 1 million lines though (maybe another 48 000?)

    Is it a straight search inthe countif() eg =countif(sheet2!a:a,"THIS") or is it more complex than that?

    Yes, you are correct. It is a straight search in the COUNTIF() formula.

    My best bet right now is to just wait it out...

    Based on your last post in this thread, its apparent that you are satisfied with the solution(s) you've received and have solved your question, but you haven't marked your thread as "SOLVED". I will do it for you this time.

    In future, to mark your thread as Solved, you can do the following -
    Select Thread Tools-> Mark thread as Solved.

    Incase your issue is not solved, you can undo it as follows -
    Select Thread Tools-> Mark thread as Unsolved.

    I wouldn't say the problem has been solved since no solution was presented and I am still dealing with the same issue. But this thread seems dead anyways.
