Automatically select data in a cell

I'm working on creating a duty schedule that will auto populate from a master sheet. The information will be from a range of cells that will change on a daily basis which is making this difficult to figure out. So for example:

A1 through A10 will be duty assignments
B1 through B10 will contain names

C7 is the cell I would like to contain the name of the person listed as N-1. So cell A5 will and N-1 and B-5 would be Phillips. How do I make cell C7 populate with Phillips?

Any help or input is appreciated.

    Example Duty Sheet.xlsx

Hopefully this attached properly. So in this example the Master sheet contains duty positions in A2 through A8 (the location of these positions can change within that range of cell on a daily basis. B2 through B8 contains the name of the person assigned to that position (this also can change on a daily basis.

Sheet 2 "Duty Sheet" is where I would like the info to populate automatically in B1 through B4. So for example B1 on the duty sheet would be Roth.

I hope this makes sense and thanks for taking a look

try this in sheet 2 B1

    =VLOOKUP(A1,Master!$A$2:$C$8,2,0)

i suggest you to unmerge the cells from both the sheets
