Question regarding array formula and special symbols

Hello group,

I have a schedule that I'm trying to use special symbols (i.e. ▲ &▼). I'm currently using the following array formula

The row that my formula is looking at for these special symbols or characters, etc is in row "C" thru "AG"and the "AX" column is where I have my symbols for it to look at and sum accordingly. My symbol would be something like ▲4v, etc
Is this possible? and if so, how would I alter the formula above to recognize it. Currently the formula does not identify my symbol even though I have ▲4v in the range specified in the AX column above.

I don't understand what you are trying to do. Do you wish to count the number of times that any of the characters in AM1:AM6 appear in C6:AG6? I don't see how that can equal 15.

I just came up with some formulas, see if any of those help you. Use the Evaluate Formula button under the data Tab to see how they work. This is much easier to do with a limited data set so I created my own.

Thanks for your reply! I believe I figured it out; see example. I just needed to put the symbol behind the number for my formula to recognize it. Thanks for your help!
