Create dynamic multi level reference ID (eg. 1.1.1, 1.1.2 etc)

    Hi,

I'm making a questionnaire in Excel and would like to create a formula to generate the question_ID (eg. 1.1.0) rather than doing it manual. I want the formula in column A, and Column B should contain the level.

    Eg.

    Question_ID(Col A) Level (Col B) Question title (Col C)
1 1 Do you have an animal?
    1.1 2 Do you have a dog?
    1.2 2 Do you have a cat?
    1.3 2 Do you have a horse?
1.3.1 3 What is the name of the horse?
1.3.2 3 What color is the horse?

How can a create a formula in column a that generate the Question_ID - I've tried multiple solutions, but non have been even close to function correctly.

I hope some of you can help

    Hello,

Is there a way to expand the formula to the additional sublevels?

This formula works fine for three levels, but if there is more than 4 it shows only the first three.

I'm trying to create this list for the new budget file, and would like to find a better solution
to assign the row codes up to 6 or 7 levels.

    for example
    1.1
    1.1.1.
    1.1.2.
    1.1.2.1.
    1.1.2.1.1.
    1.1.2.1.1.1.
    1.1.2.1.1.2.

    etc.
