#NAME? error when external file is open

    Someone help!

I have a huge workbook that has about 20 external links, but there's one file in particular that causes a #NAME? error when it's open at the same time.

    Details:
    1. I open the workbook, have tried to open it, both with updating links and by continuing without updates.
    2. I open the external workbook, and everything connected to it errors out.
    3. If I close that external workbook, the errors remain, but will go away if I enter the cell and calculate (F2 then enter) or if I go in "Edit Links" and "Update Values" for that file.

    What is happening?

What's the formula causing the error?
The error can either be from a function which is not recognized(let say IFERROR in Excel 03), or Named Range.
Sometimes is possible that you had workbook which name has been change and Excel still keeps link to this workbook.

Re: #NAME? error when external file is open

It has #NAME? errors in both direct links (simply ='External File'!A1, for example) and vlookup formulas (=VLOOKUP,A1,'External File'!NamedRange,FALSE).
