    Using Conditional Formatting with other formulas

    See attached spreadsheet.

    When any of the cells in the range from C3:I3 = D1, I want the column of that corresponding year to highlight in green. So if I type in 2013, Cells D3:D5 should highlight in green.

    Highlight the cells D4 to I5, then click on Conditional Formatting | New Rule | Use a Formula... from the bottom of the list, then enter this formula in the dialogue box:

    =D$3=$D$1

    Then click the Format button | Fill tab and choose green. Then click OK twice to exit the dialogue box and Excel will automatically adjust the cell references to suit the highlighted cells.

    Based on your last post in this thread, its apparent that you are satisfied with the solution(s) you've received and have solved your question, but you haven't marked your thread as "SOLVED". I will do it for you this time.

    In future, to mark your thread as Solved, you can do the following -
    Select Thread Tools-> Mark thread as Solved.

    Incase your issue is not solved, you can undo it as follows -
    Select Thread Tools-> Mark thread as Unsolved.
