    Thumbs up Excel Counting Formula

What is the formula for counting how many entries per machine?
    > For example, there are 2 entries for machine A, 2 for B, 0 for C, 1 for D, 2 for E, and 3 for F.
    > Disregard the value, I just need to know how many entries per machine.
    > The formula will be inserted in the count by machine area.
    > Several cells will be blank (not zero) so I don't want to count them.

    Re: Excel Counting Formula

    Hi
    something like =sumproduct((first_range="a")*(second_range <>"")) for machine A ?

Pictures are nice but a sheet is easier to work on

Thanks - the sumproduct formula worked for me. I used =SUMPRODUCT(--(B7:P7="A"),--(B8:P8>0)) for A, =SUMPRODUCT(--(B7:P7="B"),--(B8:P8>0)) for B, etc., etc.

Sorry about the picture and no attachment, I was having issues uploading the excel file for some reason. It was taking forever.

    Anyhow, thanks again.

    Re: Excel Counting Formula

You can also use the COUNTIFS function to do this. It's more efficient compared to the SUMPRODUCT function.

    =COUNTIFS(B7:P7,"B",B8:P8,">0")
