    COUNTIFS in Excel 2003

    Hi

I need to find an alternative for COUNTIFS in Excel 2003. My current formula is =COUNTIFS(A1:A5000,2013,B1:B5000,"*John Smith*")

Important to highlight *John Smith* as sometimes a cell in column B will contain multiple names.

My hope is that this will also work in Google Spreadsheets as this also does not have COUNTIFS

    Much appreciated.

    Re: COUNTIFS in Excel 2003

    Try

    =SUMPRODUCT(--(A1:A5000=2013),--(ISNUMBER(SEARCH("John Smith",B1:B5000))))
