Convert from "general" (YYYYMMDD) to specific "custom" format (YYYY.MM.DD)

    Hi there,

Is it a possible to convert from "general" (20130125) to "CUSTOM" format (2013.01.25)

I have some spreadsheets that were copied and pasted from a database, and need to upload the document in SAP with the date listed as 2013.01.25

    Thanks!
    Ella

If your value is a recognized date you can do it in cell format with Ctrl+1 yyyy.mm.dd or you can do it formulaically with =text(A1,"yyyy.mm.dd")

If it's just some numbers, you could use =TEXT(DATE(YEAR(LEFT(A1,4),MONTH(MID(A1,5,2)),DAY(RIGHT(A1,2))),"yyyy.mm.dd") to force the date recognition and then format.

If it's just some numbers, and you don't care if it comes out as just some numbers you use Ctrl+1 to format as 0000.00.00

    Hi Daffodil11,
I must be doing soemthing wrong, that did not work.

However, I found the solution, select all the dates in the column, go to Data, text to columns, then covert the 'general' to date format.
After that, I chnaged the format of the date from format cell, custom, yyyy.mm.dd
