Post Sumif two columns matching another two columns

I need some help with combined formulas.

I have two sheets within a workbook. One sheet has the orginal data and another sheet with the results.

Sheet 1 has the following columns...

    Frank EUROPE 20,949.16
    Sean EUROPE 6,485.82
    Jerry EUROPE 2,277.73
    Sean EUROPE 3,244.55
    James ASIA 5,015.60
    James ASIA 348.00
    James EUROPE 23,220.95
    James EUROPE 11,593.56
    Jennifer NAMER 259.56
    Elizabeth NAMER 2,526.56
    Elizabeth NAMER 937.97
    Jerry EUROPE 1,852.49
    Elizabeth SAMER 23.22
    Mildred EUROPE 857.61
    Anna ASIA 2,252.88
    Jerry EUROPE 249.38
    Jerry EUROPE 4,021.16
    Ted EUROPE 450.26
    Robert ASIA 1,487.29
    Anna ASIA 9,265.78
    Jeffrey EUROPE 338.74

On Sheet 2, I want to have a formula that would return a sum of total sales for each region by per person and format somewhat like below...

    Asia
    Anna 11,518.66
    James 5,363.60
    Robert 1,487.29

    Europe
    Frank 20,949.16
    Sean 9,730.37
    James 34,814.51
    Mildred 857.61
    Jerry 8,400.76
    etc...

    Your help is much appreciated!

Use pivot tables on Sheet 1, and you can get the result you want like in sheet 2

It's not very clear from your post how your data is laid out - can you attach a sample workbook? (The FAQ describes how to).

Can the areas (like Asia, Europe etc.) be put in a narrow column A on Sheet2, with the names and totals in column B and C? That would make it easier to identify them.

Can you confirm, also, that you are using XL2003 as stated in your profile? If so, then that would rule out using SUMIFS, but if not then please update your profile.
