It has been a while since math, so I am having trouble.
Say the cell I am referencing value is 100,000
I need to take two percentages off of that number. First 50%, then 37% and have the value in a SINGLE cell.
Because 100,000/1.87 is not the same thing....of course.
=100000-100000*0.5-(100000-100000*0.5)*0.37

Both gave me the same number. The ACTUAL number I am referencing is $121,755.
How I calculate it out is....121,755/1.5= 81,170 THEN 81,170/1.37 = 59,248....I need the 59248
Both formulas gave me 38,353.
What i am trying to do is boil a 50% markup from 121,755 down to 81,170 then 37% markup from 81,170 down to 59248
=(121755/1.5)/1.37
It's probably more of an arithmetic question than just Excel, but:
y=(x/1.5)/1.37=x/(1.5*1.37)=x/2.055 In excel, this could be =A1/1.5/1.37 or =A1/2.055 or =A1/(1.5*1.37). If you wanted to put the markups into cells so they could be edited later, then replace the constants with appropriate references.
