yearly sums

Hello. I have two rows of data for 2013 and 2014. In the first row are actuals for 2013 (or 2014) In the second row are the forecasts for 2013. I would like to have a sum for 2013 with the following criteria. If there are actuals, use those, if not, use the forecasted numbers. Thanks.

Attach a sample workbook. Make sure there is just enough data to make it clear what is needed. Include a BEFORE sheet and an AFTER sheet in the workbook if needed to show the process you're trying to complete or automate. Make sure your desired results are demonstrated, mock them up manually if needed. Remember to desensitize the data.

Re: yearly sums

If you have the word "actual" or "budget", then you could use those in a sumif() function...
=sumif(range-with-actual-in-it,"actual",range-with-values-to-sum)

Of course, you could change the word "actual" to whatever word you have there
1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)

Re: yearly sums

With
Row_1 containing Periods (B1:Y1) 201301, 201302, etc
Row_2 containing Actuals (B2:Y2)
Row_3 containing Forecast (B3:Y3)

This regular formula returns the sum of Actuals & Forecast for 2013
=SUM(B2:M2)+SUMIF(B2:M2,"",B3:M3)

Is that something you can work with?

Re: yearly sums

But I want to sum both. For example, actuals might go through November of 2013 but the forecast starts from October (through end of year). I want to take all of the values for actuals and add the values for the forecast where there is no data from actuals. Does that make sense?
