    Data Sorting problems

I have an issue and I hope that this is the right place to address it ( I was told I had posted it into another member's thread, for which I apologise).

I have a spreadsheet where all the formatting has been removed so there is nothing out of order, but when I select the whole of the data, 'Sort' is grayed out. When I go to the first cell and press data/sort, it chooses the first 10 columns (A - H inclusive) and ignores the rest. No matter what do I cannot get it to sot. HELP please.

Are you able to attach a sample of your file so we can see the issue? It's possible that some cells are locked.

In order to attach a file, go to Advanced, then Manage Attachments, and browse to the file and upload it.

I am afraid that I cannot attach a sheet due to client confidentiality - I know its a pain. I will look at whether any part of the sheet is locked.

    Thanks

    Re: Data Sorting problems

Is there any chance you could delete everything and then attach that? Whatever is preventing your sorting is unlikely tied to the data contained therein.

It's more likely an issue of the cell formatting, possibly under Review -> Protect Sheet or Protect Workbook

    Re: Data Sorting problems

Another possibility is merged cells. You won't be able to sort if some of the cell rows are merged. Select the entire range and right click and "Format cells" > Alignment and clear the check box next to Merge cells.

    Re: Data Sorting problems

Your data is currently set into 2 tables, one from A:H and another from I to AK.

To clear the table set, right click on the top row of each of those ranges, go to Table -> Convert to Range.

Once both tables are converted back to normal data sets, you can sort as you please.
