Complicated tracking sheet for shift selection and availability

    Hello Excel Community!
I am working on creating a workbook that will allow shift selections to be entered from new hires, compared to availability and then logged and space removed from the availability. Rather than create a mess of a workbook that would be torn apart i am asking for assistance on the best was to complete this. I would appreciate any expertise you can share. Below i have attached a idea of my vision. Also if you happen to create the sheet please help teach me by providing the process below if able.

Also if you are the savior of excel it would be excellent if the selections made could lookup on the master shift list to identify the one selected.

Other than being eternally grateful i will add feedback for assistance

    Hi!
I would be happy to work with you on this project.
I guess I understand what you want to do, but how you want to do things needs some clarification.
I'm attaching your workbook in which I have put some questions and a suggestion on how the process could work (see the yellow textboxes). Just to get started.
It's my intension to let you create the workbook yourself to make sure you will understand what's happening in it and why.
Reason for that is when I would do all the coding you could end up with a nice workbook but without a clue of how it works. Making changes then would be quite difficult for you. And besides that it wouldn't be your workbook (and glory) anymore.
Of course I will do some coding for you, but mostly be guiding and explaining. Also depending on your skills and needs.

BTW, not sure at this stage but you might need to turn to some vba. For instance when you would decide to make a userform i.s.o. a worksheet. Would you be comfortable with that? It is an option to excude vba, but it would be a restriction of the possibilities. All depending on what you want.

Let me know if you want to proceed.

Sorry to respond with more questions, but I really need the information to understand and anticipate to your needs.

Can you something about your business?
    Just for my understanding.

Will you be comfortable with some vba?
Would extend the possibilities substantially. Also probably unavoidable.

Will you yourself be entering the preferred shifts on behalf of the candidates or will the candidates be doing that themselves?
If candidates will be entering data, then we'll need to add sufficient input validation and some basic security.

Can you supply an example of a candidate list?

What is a requisition Id number?
As I'm familiar with your business this has just as much meaning for me as req#
Just consider me as a new hand on his first day

Would you prefer entering the shifts thru the worksheet or thru a userform?

I've been playing around a bit.
Forget about excluding vba, but I've kept it limited so far.
    Instructions are on the sheet.
