Countif formula

i would like to perform the countif function to check all the range of cells that contain date value that larger then a referance cell,
is it possible ? if so i would be happy to get dirctions

Maybe:
=COUNTIF(YOUR_RANGE,">"&A1)
With A1 is reference cell.
