    Headcount Lookup

    Hi All,

I have a headcount spreadsheet i am working on and i need to compare what HR dates against Finance budgeted Dates.

I have names of contractors in column A and then dates Jan to december in row 1. So i have a name e.g Emma in cell A2 and she is leaving in feb so she would have a minus one (-1) in C2. I have a list of names (say for this case out the way in column X) and i need to lookup the names, in this case Emma, in Column A and return "Febuary" when she is predicted to leave. Also i may have a name without a -1 across the year (they have been extended into 2015-lucky them) and it needs to return "extended to 2015,"

If someone could lead me to the water that would be great !! I am so close just cant quit get there,

    Many Thanks

    Sasha

    Re: Headcount Lookup

Attach a sample workbook. Make sure there is just enough data to make it clear what is needed. Include a BEFORE sheet and an AFTER sheet in the workbook if needed to show the process you're trying to complete or automate. Make sure your desired results are demonstrated, mock them up manually if needed. Remember to desensitize the data.

Attatched is an example of what i am trying to achieve ! I need the dates in row 6 (jan to dec) to update in column V against the name when they are budgeted to leave, being the -1

    Re: Headcount Lookup

    In V8 cell

    =IFERROR(INDEX($D$6:$P$6,,MATCH(-1,D9:P9,0)),"-")

    Drag it down...

    Hi Sixthsence,

Thank you so very much for your help. What if the names are not in order though and you need to lookup the name and then match it to the date they are leaving,

    Re: Headcount Lookup

Confirm how you are arriving the result May-14 for Phil, Business Operation, HR?

Is it matching with the source?

Please don't give home work to us without checking the data....

    Re: Headcount Lookup

    Oh Sorry

It is my fault for not explaining very well. The Example is just a snippet of my workbook (all links are broken) and the department and role are sourced from another spreadsheet in the file. The aim is to compare HR dates for the contractors with a budget. The -1 in the rows adjacent to the names/people (in column C) show when they are budgeted to leave-so Emma is budgeted to leave in Jan14. In column V I am trying to lookup, for example Emma in column C by referencing column R, and match the -1 in her row to then pick up the date at the top of that column and thus pick up the budgeted leaving date, in this case Jan14. The list of names in column C are not the same as Column V in my file and are not in the same order hence i some how need to form the lookup,

Sorry for the previous poor snippets. As it is sensitive information i dont really want to share my hard file,

    Many Thanks for your time,

    Sasha

    Re: Headcount Lookup

So there is no need to consider Role & Dept right?

No they are just the details given from HR and in honesty are completly irrelavant. They are in there to give an idea of the situation. Sorry if i have confused.

I'm using an "extra" TRIM: some of the names in column C are written with a space at the end.
