Total values for the same date

I have a simple spreadsheet that shows a date column and how many nights where booked on that date. I would like a formulae that totals those nights per month. Can anyone help? I've attached the SS Bookings2a.xls

Thanks for taking the time and trouble but the SS you replied with gave a total of "491" whereas Jan 2008 took 14 bookings only. 491 doesn't seem to be a total of all the January's in the list either.

Thanks for taking the time and trouble. Unfortunatly your .xlsx SS produced a #NAME? error in column A on the "sum" sheet with no totals - although it could be something to do with the conversion from a .xlsx file.

I dregged the formulas in rows 1 & 2 until column AD(which shows result for March of 2010). Drag across as much as you need.

Hey that's great now. I was trying to copy the formulae by month which didn't work until I copied a whole year!
