I need a count of cells in a column based on criteria on that line in a different column

I have two columns. Column A had numbers and column B has names. I need a count from column A for each name in column B.

Create a new column with the equation =if(a1=$d$1,b1,0)
In the cell d1 put the name you want and in the cell e1 put equation =sum(c:c)
