LIST of postal codes then cell to say east or west? to help sort list geographically

any help would be appreciated.

if i have a list of postal codes example below....what formula would i use that would need to match the code exactly then input text next to cell to say east or west so I can geographically sort a list of people? any help for a formula or attached sample spread sheet?

L9K WEST
L8S WEST
L9C WEST

thanks i found this =VLOOKUP(LEFT(K5,3),'postal list'!$A$2:$B$51,2,FALSE) basically took the first three letters of list i created.... thanks for the help as wel
