    Countif Forumla

    Hi

I am doing some analysis on school data and trying to make my own life easier. In one column I have a list of all the classes a student is in and next to it I have the current grade. The list with the classes has a space between each class code, for example 11a1 11b1 11c1. If I do a countif formula looking for members of a certain class with an A grade I put =Countif(A1:A150,"*a1*",B1:B150,"A") and it works fine.

But what I want is a dropdown list of all the classes as a reference point so if I put the class name in C1 for example that it would change the value based on the class selected. I thought this should work =Countif(A1:A150,"*C1*",B1:B150,"A") but it doesn't return any value. Can someone help me please.
