How to cross reference two lists

I was hoping someone could help me, seems simple but I can’t find a solution!

I have two lists of reference numbers; I need to see if any of the references appear in the other list. I don’t want them to be removed, maybe highlighted?

I have made them into one list and used the duplicate conditional formatting but some references appear twice in one list and there is a lot of data so this is not good enough.
    Thanks in advance

    Jess

Re: How to cross reference two lists

Assuming that your first list is in column A starting on A2 and your second in column B, then highlight range A2:A100 and in CF rules use this.

How can you use Conditional Formating.

--In Excel 2007 and 2010, Conditional Formatting is in the Styles group on the Home tab. In Excel 2003, Conditional Formatting is on the Format menu. See here how you can work using CF.

Re: How to cross reference two lists

    Thank you!

    List one = A3:10186
    List two = D3:D1879

I want list two to be highlighed. Do you know what the formula would be?

Thanks for your help! Much Appreciated

    Highlight the range D3:D1879.

Use this formula in CF rules
