Question Importing data from .txt file...

    Hi all,

I have a .txt file containing around 20,000 email addresses. The problem is that there are a number of email addresses repeated more than once, so I want to import the file into excel and remove the dulplicates. I tried importing it but it doesn't gets imported in a single column and when I use 'Remove Duplicates' in the Data tab Excel either says no duplicates found or multiple columns selected when I select the imported data.

Please let me know if anyone has a solution for this. Thanks in advance.

    Hi,

When you import the file can you use the Fixed Width, or Delimited options to split the text into several columns one of which is the email address

Take a copy of your file and remove all but say 100 records which cover the various lengths and upload that so that we can see the request in context.

Thanks for replying, as I mentioned the file just has lots of email addresses and no headers. Also I have tried both fixed width and delimited options, but my purpose of removing the duplicate email addresses has not been served.

In that case upload the workbook copy (say 100 rows) as requested.

There will probably be a way of identifying where the email address is located, probably by looking for the space character at either end of it.
