    Grid ref at end point

    Hi,

I would like to know the grid reference of where I would end up if I travelled along a straight line for a certain distance in a known direction and known start point eg..

    Start point Easting’s 291000 Northings 331000

Walk a distance of 1 km

    90 degrees (east)

    Hope someone can help,

    Cheers

    Hi,

Thank you for your prompt response - everything works a treat , just wondering why the Northings increase from the 90 degrees path by 1 over the distance of 1km then more as you travel the further away ? This is pure curiosity as the accuracy is more than good enough as it is.

    Thanks again,

    Cheers

I think this is roundoff error related to using the ROUND() function when converting 90 degrees to pi()/2 radians (see formula in c6). If you get rid of the ROUND() function in C6, this error will be much smaller -- Excel will hold the radians out to 15 digits rather than cutting it off at 3 digits.

    Hi,

Mr Shorty is of course quite correct. Just remove the Round function. i.e.
    C6: =Radians(B6)
