Excel running slow even with all content deleted

I believe you may be dealing with an inflated workbook based on the last used cell scenario.

When you import large volumes of data into your file, even if you delete the content, the cell Excel stores as the last used cell continues to bloat the workbook.
You can manually reset the last used cell by selecting ALL rows and ALL columns to the right and below your existing data and deleting them, then resaving your workbook which will compact it, or you can run the macro as below to do it automatically.

There are a lot of objects you don't see in the file
Remove them by
F5
specials
objects
OK

Alle objects (Row 5:6 Column O:P) are selected
Delete them

You dont need to go that the extrame of deleting everything, all you need to do is use end-home to go to the furthest limit of the WB.
You would then delete all rows/columns between that point to the last row/column of your actual data. Once that is done, save the file, close it and re-open, excel will now use the last set of data for the end-home mark

The macro above "evolved" the more I used it. I admit that it looks a bit bloated but it works well for a number of reasons. Without going into much detail, I found that my earlier versions seemed to delete charts and shapes that were on the right or below the data. As I deleted those rows/columns it seemed to delete charts and shapes that were connected to those rows/columns.
Another issue I found was that in certain cases, just deleting rows/col did not clear formatting across the row or down the col. So cells never reset after deleting and saving; hence the clearformats entries.
Anyways...I find this one caters for many of these potential scenarios, so I've kept it as is and it works well.

You must just give it time...Excel us not freezing up, just doing it's best to process all those textboxes.
I hung around a bit and used F5 to select the objects, added colour to them, sized one larger to confirm it's a text box and then deleted them all. (Took about 10 minutes to do all that!)
After I selected them all (using F5) and deleted the textboxes, the file was 30KB's and nice and fast and responsive again.
